The Asociación Internacional de Historia y Civilización da Vinha e do Vinho (AIHCV), the Grupo de Estudos de Historia da Viticultura Duriense e do Vinho do Porto (GEHVID) and the Departamento de Economia e Sociologia of the Universidade de Tr·s-os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD/DES) were the organizers of the II International Symposium of the History and Civilization of Vineyards and Wine, whose general theme was Vineyards and Wine in European Culture. This Symposion started in Porto, European Capital of Culture, on 10th September 2001, and proceeded in the cities of Lamego and Vila Real.
This Symposium was an homage to Professor François Guichard, of the Universitè de Bordeaux III and CNRS, in recognition of his studies on the vitiviniculture of the North of Portugal and for his activities in encouraging and supervising young researchers.
